The Reason Carol Danvers Wears More Makeup in 'Avengers: Endgame' Trailer Than 'Captain Marvel'
By Hannah Wigandt

Nothing escapes fans these days, even something as minor as Captain Marvel wearing more makeup than we've seen before in the Avengers: Endgame trailer. The fact that the powerful superhero wears lipstick and blush in the released footage upsets fans who claim she doesn't need to look pretty to fight with the Avengers.
Marvel Studios is now facing fan backlash for showing a glammed up version of Carol Danvers, as she barely wore any makeup in her standalone film Captain Marvel. But not the directing duo the Russo Brothers, nor executives are actually to blame.
Okay but can we talk about why she’s wearing obvious makeup? I don’t think I noticed any lipstick on her during Captain Marvel and I thought she looked even more badass for going au naturale.

I hope this wasn’t a “she’s a woman so she needs to wear makeup” thing by execs ? https://t.co/YVwpY4WfC4
The makeup decision was apparently all Brie Larson's idea, the actress behind the fierce hero. During a press junket, /Film asked the Russos about Danvers' new look.
"She [filmed Avengers: Endgame] before she filmed Captain Marvel, and I think she was experimenting with what the character was," Joe Russo explained, noting it was the first time Larson played the role. "And those were the choices that she and her hair and makeup team had made. And I think as she started to gain a deeper understanding of the character, especially as she approached her own movie. She started to make different choices and as an artist she should be afforded that right to make whatever choice that she wants to make.”
Larson confirmed this at the junket press conference, stating, "We shot [Endgame] first so I had to stumble and figure out who this character was with no script for this and no script for Captain Marvel, either, and perform for the first time in front of legends.”
In any case, Marvel fans shouldn't be jumping to conclusions based on anything in the Endgame trailers--especially considering the Russos have confirmed some of the scenes aren't even featured in the movie. We can judge everything for ourselves when the movie finally debuts April 26.
