The 'Harry Potter' Easter Egg You Might Have Missed in 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald'

While the Fantastic Beasts movies are nowhere near as popular as the original Harry Potter series, fans of JK Rowling’s Wizarding World are still for the most part open to exploring Hogwarts’ history deeper. There are many things we’ve learned from the first book and movie series that apply now when watching Fantastic Beasts, and there are a few minor details that go unnoticed. For example, there’s one part of the sequel that’s seemingly a callback to something Hermione Granger told us in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

One scene from Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which was even featured in the trailer, shows Jacob Kowalski looking extremely confused as the group arrives at Hogwarts. A Redditor recently pointed out:

“In this shot, Jacob is in the background, looking around and his expression denotes confusion. At first I was like: 'Well, of course he is confused! It’s not every day that you get to see the magnificent castle of Hogwarts.' Then I rewatched the trailer and I remembered: In the Goblet of Fire Hermione explains why magical schools have such a secrecy about their locations. She tells Harry that Hogwarts has a magical protection surrounding it, an illusion that makes muggles see some devastated scary ruins to keep them away.”

It’s a small detail we don’t have actual confirmation about, but it would make sense given the information we have from the original Harry Potter series. Given Rowling wrote the script for the sequel, this seems like a pretty clever Easter Egg.
