'Suicide Squad 2' Gets New Name With James Gunn Set to Relaunch Series

Suicide Squad is one of the most divisive, although successful, movies in the DC Universe. But the fact that it did well at the box office had fans expectant for a sequel, and for those of whom enjoyed the film, they have been patiently waiting for another since 2016.

But now DC fans, the wait is over, as the company has announced two new movies, The Batman (which will not feature Ben Affleck) and The Suicide Squad, both to hit theaters in 2021.

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that director James Gunn, known for helming Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2, will jump on board to direct the second Suicide Squad, a film which is going to be more of a "relaunch" rather than a sequel. Gunn is using this opportunity to reimagine the Squad in a different way.

Fans will remember Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy 3 by Disney after offensive tweets of his resurfaced.

Along with animated film DC Super Pets also arriving in 2021 on top of The Batman, Suicide Squad is set to be the third DC movie to come out that year.

The wait is still present, but at least we have a couple promising DC movies to look forward to after Shazam! and Joker premiere this year.
