'Stranger Things' Producers to Reboot 'Unsolved Mysteries' for Netflix
By Jennifer Fabiano

As if things in Hawkins, Indiana weren’t mysterious enough, the producers of Stranger Things are reportedly now working with original creators Terry Dunn Meurer and John Cosgrove to bring back the classic series Unsolved Mysteries.
Meurer will serve as showrunner along with Robert Wise, while Cosgrove will act as executive producer. Stranger Things producers Shawn Levy and Josh Barry will produce through Levy’s production company 21 Laps Entertainment.

The show, which will appear on Netflix, will “maintain the chilling feeling viewers loved about the original, while also telling the stories through the lens of a premium Netflix documentary series,” according to a press release from the streaming service.
The original series began streaming on Netflix in 2017, with the service now set to develop 12 new episodes that “will focus on one mystery and once again will look to viewers to help aid investigators in closing the book on long outstanding cases."

The original series was hosted by Robert Stack and ran for over 500 episodes on NBC between 1987 and 1997. Spike picked up the show from 2008 and 2010 with Dennis Farina as the host.
Cosgrove and Meurer have been eager to revamp the show for some time. In an Aug. 2017 Reddit "Ask Me Anything" post, Cosgrove wrote:
"We are actively talking to a couple of broadcasters who have shown interest, and we’re very optimistic that we’ll have something by way of new episodes by the end of the year. It’s too early to go into much detail, but we’ve had our research producers look into possible stories, and they’ve found some excellent ones which can be ready to go quickly.”
The contemporary revival doesn't yet have an official release date, but we're now imagining who Netflix will choose to host the series.
