The Force is so far not strong with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Rotten Tomatoes revealed their scores for the newest Star Wars film (and the final installment of the 42-year Skywalker Saga) and let's just say it ain’t looking so hot. At the time of this writing, only 57% of critics gave the film a positive review, making it the lowest-rated entry in the current trilogy, and the second lowest-rated film in the franchise’s history.

To add insult to injury, it sadly didn’t beat the lowest-rated movie by much. With a 57% rating, the film is only 4% above The Phantom Menace, which earned a 53% rating when it came out in 1999. Under the “Critics’ Consensus” for new J.J. Abrams-directed film, Rotten Tomatoes writes, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker suffers from a frustrating lack of imagination, but concludes this beloved saga with fan-focused devotion.”

And it is clear that fans have taken notice to this point. So far, the audience score is at 86%, which isn’t too bad considering how bad critics are claiming it is. As this is the end to a decades-long journey, let’s hope at least audiences continue to like it.
