Often, an actor has to change a lot about themselves to truly become the character they're playing. Not only do they have to mentally step into the character's shoes, but they have to look the part as well. This is exactly what Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner had to go through in order to transform into Sansa Stark.

Turner won the role of Sansa when she was just 13, but before filming she had to change a lot about herself, such changes that would live with her for the next 10 years.

The first thing she had to change was of course her blond hair, as she had to dye it red. But Turner wasn't too upset about the hair color, as she told Marie Claire that being a redhead empowered her and made her more confident.

While Turner played Sansa she was also not allowed to be in the sun either, strictly because she had to keep her pale complexion for her part. There's hardly ever any sun up in the North during winter, so obviously it would look strange if Sansa was even a bit tan. Turner got into the habit of adding sunscreen to her daily face regimen.

"While working on Game of Thrones, I wasn’t allowed to go in the sun because I had to maintain Sansa’s pale complexion. At the time, it was a bummer, but it actually turned out to be a blessing for my skin," Turner told Marie Claire.

Now that she has finished filming the last of Thrones, Turner has cut her hair and is sporting her natural color. She claimed she wants to cut it even shorter into a bob, but "usually chicken[s] out."

We'll see Turner as a redhead perhaps the last time ever when GoT returns on April 14.
