Sophie Turner Says Latest 'Game of Thrones' Teaser Has 'Nothing to Do' With Season 8

If you ever want to get lost in a Reddit rabbit hole, check out the Game of Thrones, and more specifically the Game of Thrones theories subreddits. Since Season 7 ended in Aug. 2017, fans have been practically rabid with theorizing what will happen in the final season, even going through old episodes, interviews, and reading through George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series for any clues. So now that we’ve finally received a few teasers for Season 8, you can only imagine the deep analysis of every new detail from fans.
The latest GoT teaser has spawned tons of theories, as the clip shows Sansa Stark, Arya Stark, and Jon Snow walking through the Crypts of Winterfell. From speculation as to where Bran Stark is, to why Jon’s statue looks like an old man, fans have been busy trying to come up with ideas as to what the preview is telling us. Well sadly, it might not mean a thing.
Fansite Winter Is Coming recently resurfaced an interview with Sansa actress Sophie Turner from the 2018 New York Comic Con back in October, in which she confirms the teaser is actually irrelevant to the final season. I know, we’re a bit devastated as well.
Speaking more so on the statue from the teaser, Turner shared:
“We did this promo for season eight where – I don’t know if I can say this, actually. Well, actually, no. It’s got nothing to do with the series; it’s just a promo. It was this big kind of statue of me, of Sansa, and I wanted to have it in the garden of my new house. But they obviously wouldn’t ship it from Belfast to New York, so…”

While many fans were already pretty sure the teaser isn’t actual footage from Season 8, we were all pretty much banking on it meaning something. But the fact that Turner could talk about it without revealing any spoilers is proof it doesn’t include any hints at the final season. At all. Back to the drawing board.
Game of Thrones returns for the final time on April 14.
