'Shazam!' Director and Producer on Board for Sequel
By Hannah Wigandt

Shazam! director David F. Sandberg and producer Peter Safran are getting ahead of the game. The DCEU film has yet to be released, but the duo is already itching to start a sequel.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, both director and producer revealed that they will be revisiting the movie for a second time. Shazam! was Sandberg's first introduction into the DC universe, as well as superhero movies in general.
"It's easy for me to say, 'I'm on board,'" Safran said. Sandberg added a confident, "Let's do it."
Movies like Shazam! will allow DC to make movies about superheroes who can exist on their own, as the standalone film will give a thorough background on the character.
"I think that is the goal," Safran stated. "It is giving heroes their time to shine and not feeling like you have to shoehorn in some universal connection amongst them all. The studio's been incredibly supportive and DC's been supportive about saying, 'Take the time that you need to introduce these characters in the right way and tell the stories that audiences want to see with these characters.'"
So far from early screenings, Shazam! has been receiving great reviews from audiences, which definitely has a lot to do with the director's vision for the story.
Shazam! hits theaters on April 5, 2019.
