Shawn Mendes is More Popular Than Justin Bieber According to Twitter's Most Mentioned Stars

Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber have never collaborated on a song, but the two's career trajectories have been pretty similar. Both started as YouTube singers who eventually became international pop stars.

And though many have attempted to start drama between the two due to Bieber marrying Mendes' suspected ex-girlfriend Hailey Baldwin, Mendes has spoken highly of Bieber. "Bieber was a massive influence for me growing up," he said in an recent interview.

Mendes has obviously looked up to Bieber, but now Bieber is looking up at him in one category. Twitter Canada has released the list of most mentioned stars of 2018, which featured both singers. Drake topped the list, but Mendes came right after him at second, one spot ahead of Bieber.

Who knows how much stars pay attention to these type of lists, but if Mendes has, then he has to be incredibly proud. Not only did he dethrone Bieber, but he did so almost entirely by making awesome music, as his personal life has not been discussed on Twitter nearly as much as Bieber's.

2018 has brought multiple awards and nominations to Mendes, and this just adds on to his list of accomplishments. His other most recent achievement came today when the singer received two Grammy nods.

Mendes' "In My Blood" is nominated for Song of the Year and his self-titled album was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album.
