Time doesn't always permanently affect the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as fans have come to realize after Avengers: Endgame. This means any character could have the potential to return in future films some way or another. But the possibility that Captain America could return to the MCU? Well, don't hold your breath.

CBR has reported that the Russo Brothers have confirmed Chris Evans will likely not be returning to reprise his role as Captain America. Endgame saw the perfect closure for the character, as he returned to his time in the 1940s to reunite with his love, Peggy Carter. And it looks like it's going to stay that way.

On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the directing duo was asked if there was any chance of Evans' return. “Chris is a very emotional person," the Russos said. "Maybe it’s evident if you follow him on Twitter, because he does put his heart into what he says. But I feel like he has to close the door on things, and emotionally move on to the next thing. I think for now he’s emotionally moved on.”

As happy as we are for Steve Rogers finding peace with Peggy, we're surely going to miss him in the MCU.
