There has, understandably, been a ton of coverage for the upcoming Star Wars film, The Rise of Skywalker, coming to theaters this December, but little has been discussed about when the next trilogy directed by Rian Johnson will occur. Unfortunately, SYFY WIRE reports that, much like the universe the films are set in, the timeline for his series may still be in a galaxy far, far away.

Johnson recently sat down with the Evening Standard and explained why there hasn’t been a confirmed filming date for his installments to the epic story. He stated, “The truth is they’re [Disney and Lucasfilm] still figuring out their schedule, their game plan, so if it’s possible for me to squeeze in another film before or while working on that, I will.”

Though The Rise of Skywalker is the final chapter in the current trilogy, it seems that the studio has been so wrapped up in their current projects, such as Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian coming to Disney+ Nov. 12, and Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan series, that they haven’t quite worked out the kinks for the next films.

As SYFY WIRE points out, this could mean that fans will have to wait for Johnson to wrap up any projects he takes in this “downtime” before filming could begin on the first installment of the new trilogy.

In the words of Yoda, I guess patience we must have, young Padawans.
