What would you get if you combined Star Wars and NSYNC? Something pretty bizarre, right? Probably. Well, apparently, it was more than an idea at one point. The plan was to have the boy band star in a cameo for 2002's Attack of the Clones.

In the early 2000s, two of the biggest things in pop culture were NSYNC and the new prequel Star Wars trilogy. But it still might come as a shock that there was a plan to have the heartthrob group in the new movie. But when rumors that the pop stars were involved began circulated, it apparently started drama, and George Lucas shot down the cameo.

But after all these years, The Huffington Post reached out to Joey Fatone and his brother, and they confirmed the cameo.

The band was sought out by Lucas himself, along with the movie's producer Rick McCallum, who was persuaded to ask NSYNC for a cameo at the insistence of his two daughters who were fans of the band.

The group quickly took time out of their tour to go down and film their small parts, excluding Justin Timberlake and Lance Bass, who were apparently too tired to take up the offer.

Even though Lucasfilm denies any involvement, Fatone claims they shot two scenes as Jedi Knights, one at the battle of Geonosis and another in a scene between Obi-Wan and Yoda. The scenes were eventually cut.

“They kind of paired us off, it was actually me and my brother that were kind of fighting back-to-back for the big arena scene,” said Fatone. “They basically said, ‘Pretend like you’re fighting droids.’”

NSYNC being cut from the film crushed them, but that didn't stop them from making a parody Attack of the Clones poster with themselves playing the main characters.

Weirder things have happened in a galaxy far, far, away, we suppose.
