Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Reveals Which Death He Finds 'Most Horrendous' in 'Game of Thrones'

Game of Thrones may have its fair share of horrific deaths--but the actor behind Jaime Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, just revealed which one he found to be the most upsetting.
“There’s the sadness of not going to work with a certain actor. But if you look at the story, by far the most horrendous one was Princess Shireen when she was burned,” Coster-Waldau said in an interview with BuzzFeed News. “I thought that was so brutal.”
The fate of Princess Shireen Coster-Waldau is referring to comes from a season five episode in which Stannis sacrifices his only daughter, scarred from Grayscale at birth, by burning her at the stake so that their armies will advance. With persuasion from Melisandre, he carries out the ghastly task with massive repercussions.
“I mean, storytelling-wise, I thought it was so strong because it just showed how when you get into this extremist way of thinking, people are willing to do insane things,” the actor added. “And here you have a father who’s willing to sacrifice his kid.”
In the world of Game of Thrones, it seems like nothing is off limits--and we're ready for much more when the eighth and final season premieres on April 14.
