Miley Cyrus Reveals the Simple Way She Got Shawn Mendes to Do Grammys Duet
By Hannah Wigandt

In case you were wondering, when one famous artist wants to collaborate with another, it doesn't always have to be a big production that takes months of planning. It could start with as something as simple as a DM on social media.
That's exactly what artist Miley Cyrus did when she wanted to get in touch with singer Shawn Mendes for a potential collaboration. She didn't even have to go through anyone to reach out to Mendes, and she simply messaged him. If collabs were this easy, why don't more musicians do them?
In an interview with Variety, Cyrus said, "I actually sent him a DM, and said 'I don't know what you're trying to do next.' Because I've been in his position in his career too before. Where you're someone that's I think trying to fit into pop music, you want to be played on pop radio but you don't want to be conformist and you want to do your own thing. And I love that way that he always kinda plays alternative pop. Which is something I love to do."
Not only did Cyrus get to share the stage with Mendes once, playing song "Islands in the Stream" at the annual MusiCares dinner to celebrate country legend Dolly Parton, but also at this past weekend's Grammy Awards. And now rumors are spreading that these performances won't be the only collaborations the duo will have.
Now all we need is for other artists to jump on the bandwagon and just message each other to start the collabs we all want.
