Marvel Production Chief Says It's Time MCU Features Gay Superhero
By Hannah Wigandt

With the premiere of Captain Marvel just a day away, and many more female-lead superhero movies in discussion, it seems like the world is ready for women to take over the spotlight that had overshadowed them for years. The same goes for Black Panther, which saw the first black lead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But that's not all that's changing in the superhero world.
Marvel production chief, Victoria Alonso, recently told Variety that she thinks it's time that Marvel introduces gay superheroes. "The world is ready, the world is ready," she said at the Captain Marvel premiere.
Rumors have been circulating that Marvel is thinking about casting an openly gay man for the role in upcoming movie Eternals, but Alonso didn't confirm whether or not she was referring to that.
Since Marvel fans are altogether diverse, why shouldn't the universe's superheroes be? Alonso touched on this as well.
"I’m so passionate about this I’ve got to tell you. Our entire success is based on people that are incredibly different. Why wouldn’t we? Why would we only want to be recognized by only one type of person? Our audience is global, is diverse, is inclusive," Alonso continued. "If we don’t do it that way for them, we will fail. If we don’t put pedal to the metal on the diversity and the inclusivity, we will not have continued success. Our determination is to have that for all of the people out there watching our movies."
