Marvel Fan Criticizes ‘Avengers: Endgame’ for Over-Editing Female Characters’ Posters

Marvel released awesome new Avengers: Endgame posters earlier this week to much fanfare. The set of 32 posters featured both victims and survivors of Thanos' snap, with the caption "Avenge the Fallen.”

A majority of Marvel adherents are fans of the new batch of posters, especially since the slogan suggests Endgame will be the first time we see the Avengers actually avenge something.
However, one fan found an issue with a detail in the posters. The fan, San Francisco-based journalist Katie Antoniou, says that the 10 women featured in the 32 posters were extremely airbrushed.

"I love the Avengers," Antoniou began an Instagram post criticizing Marvel's altered images. "I loved Captain Marvel. But these photos have made me so mad. Spot the difference? Women: literally no facial lines- foreheads completely airbrushed. Men: every single one (even the gods/aliens/people who don’t physically age) you can see lines on their foreheads. And there’s about a dozen more characters I haven’t included, all the same. What’s the deal @marvelstudios?"
According to Comicbook.com, fellow fans commented on the post saying they noticed the airbrushing and are also upset about it. Antoniou, however, has since disabled comments from the post.
Airbrushing has been discussed in the past, with its critics saying it's disproportionately used on photos of women, thus unnecessarily increasing unrealistic beauty standards.
Though it isn't the biggest deal in the world, it is understandable why some fans are offended by the photo manipulation, especially since Marvel has been criticized in the past for sexism and should've been more aware of the photos' possible controversy.
Avengers: Endgame debuts in theaters on April 26.
