Mark Hamill is immensely famous for portraying Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars, but beyond that, he’s also amassed a considerable following in his many portrayals of the Joker for various DC animated productions. With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker likely marking the end of Hamill’s tenure as Luke, many fans have raised the possibility that he might take his other iconic character into a live-action role--and today, Hamill responded to the idea.

As Fandom reports, a fan on Twitter asked Hamill whether or not he would play the Joker if Frank Miller’s landmark graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns was ever adapted into live-action, to which Hamill responded, “Only time will tell.”

Previously, The Dark Knight Returns has been adapted into a two-part animated feature, with Michael Emerson playing the role of the Joker. There are no plans currently announced for any other adaptations of the graphic novel.

Hamill has most famously portrayed the Joker in a number of DC animated series and movies, beginning with Bruce Timm’s Batman: The Animated Series and continuing through such productions as Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, Justice League Unlimited, Batman: The Killing Joke, and even the Arkham series of Batman video games. His Joker is instantly recognizable for his hyena-like laugh and sinister humor.

We, personally, would love to see Hamill return to the role of the Joker--though we can’t say for certain what it would be like to have him physically take on the role. Something tells us that that mixture of Luke Skywalker and the Joker would awaken some inner demons within us.
