Littlefinger Actor Doesn't Think 'Game of Thrones' Will Have a Happy Ending

As the final season of Game of Thrones approaches, there is a ton of speculation over how the series will end. But in almost every theory, there seems to be one guarantee: the ending will be devastating.

Along with fan theories, nearly every one of the show's stars who have commented on how Season 8 will play out has let fans know the ending is heartbreaking.

And even those who hope for a happy ending know that's wishful thinking when it comes to George RR Martin. One of the show's former stars, Aidan Gillen, who plays Littlefinger, recently offered his thoughts on the upcoming final season.

"I always thought it'd be nice for it to have a happy ending. But I can't imagine that would be appropriate," he told ET Online.

Gillen, who's character was killed in Season 7, does not know for sure how it will all end. The actor says the show's ending has always been kept under wraps to those on the show, including the cast and even writers.

"There were stories about George RR Martin leaving secrets in vaults with combinations and all of that," Gillen added. "I know it adds to the allure, but the fact that so many people have so many expectations hinging on it and so many people are interested, it's this huge global storytelling phenomenon."

Whatever elaborate close to the series Martin and those involved have planned, it'll be smart to keep a couple of tissue boxes near you when watching this season's episodes.
