Kylie Jenner Net Worth 2018: How the Makeup Mogul Made Her Fortune
By Kwadar Ray

Kylie Jenner made waves this summer as it was announced she was coming close to the billion-dollar threshold. Jenner's ridiculous net worth does not come as too much of a surprise considering the family she comes from, but have you ever wondered exactly how Kylie went from simply the little sister of Kim Kardashian to "self-made" cosmetic superstar seemingly overnight?
Jenner capitalized on her interest in cosmetics, and now runs not only one of the hottest makeup companies today, but her company has become an all-time success. Kylie Cosmetics on Shopify officially launched just two years ago, stocked with 500,000, $29 lip kits which consisted of matching lipstick and lip liner in six shades.
Kylie Cosmetics has sold over $630 million in makeup since. Forbes values her company at nearly $800 million, and Jenner owns the entirety of it through keeping her staff small and having a simple operation to outsource her material, with minor market costs.
"No other influencer has ever gotten to the volume or had the rabid fans and consistency that Kylie has had for the last two and a half years," says Loren Padelford who runs Shopify Plus, which powers online stores of Drake, Justin Bieber and Kylie's own sister, Kim.
If you add onto that success the millions Jenner's gained from TV programs and endorsement deals, the 21-year-old is worth $900 million. Jenner is approaching the title of becoming the youngest self-made billionaire ever, taking the helm from Mark Zuckerberg, who became a billionaire at 23.
And once she breaks the record, she'll have social media to thank. "Social media is an amazing platform," Jenner told Forbes in August. "I have such easy access to my fans and my customers."
On a nearly hourly basis, Jenner posts to Instagram or Snapchat, sharing selfies with captions mentioning which Kylie Cosmetics product she's sporting.
Through the social media promotion-- which her sisters provide some aid with-- Kylie is able to spread the popularity of her products to her 110 million IG followers, 16.4 million followers on the Kylie Cosmetics page, 25.6 million Twitter followers and so on.
Whether or not you agree with the title of "self-made" mogul, you have to respect how Kylie has been able to dominantly take the makeup world by storm.
