Kit Harington Once Convinced Sophie Turner He Had Been Killed Off 'Game of Thrones'

Season 8 of Game of Thrones will surely feature a few shocking deaths, as the show has become notorious for unexpectedly killing off prominent characters.

Perhaps the most shocking death in the series was that of Jon Snow, who was stabbed to death at the end of the fifth season by Alliser Thorne and other members of the Night's Watch. While the death was shocking when it occurred, diehard of the series totally believed Jon, played by Kit Harington, would still somehow return for Season 6. And of course, their intuition was correct.

But just because fans knew Jon wasn't gone for good, that doesn't mean some of the show's stars weren't convinced that Harington would be off the show. Because of this, the actor had to say fake goodbyes to his castmates.

"At first I thought I would find it fun... But I had to lie to a lot of close friends and cast members and crew. The longer it went, the more I felt like I was betraying them," Harington told Entertainment Weekly in 2016. One of the show's stars that believed he was leaving was Sansa Stark actress Sophie Turner, who took his alleged departure to heart.

"Sophie Turner, bless her, wrote me a really long letter about how much she loved working with me—and I still got it," Harington explained. "That made me chuckle."

Turner and Harington will return for the series' eighth and final season on April 14.
