The title of Episode IX is finally here and The Rise of Skywalker has been intriguing fans ever since. Considering that the last known Skywalker died in The Last Jedi, fans have been confused about who the title is referring to. But director/writer and Star Wars superfan Kevin Smith has got a theory he wants to share with you.

Smith talked with Ralph Garman on the latest episode of the Hollywood Babble-On podcast about the title, with the former sharing a couple of theories he has. But one specifically has us interested the most. What if the title is talking about a group of people, not just one person?

"It could be after unfairly killing him in the last one he's coming back! It's a literal title about the rise of Skywalker. Or it could be that after all this time we find out Rey is a Skywalker right? Or it could be that f**king Kylo is. The title does for me what, without knowing anything, excites the s**t out of me because there are endless possibilities, but here is one that it could be. And this is again, a shot in the dark."

"What if, in the last movie, it was the last Jedi." Smith said. "What if they are telling us the f**king title. What if that is like a title. What if the way that Jedi has been used historically in those movies and like including that in the last movie the Jedi, the Jedi must end and all that s**t. What if that's it for the Jedi and perhaps the new religion is the Skywalkers. Didn't that just give you f**king chills? And I swear, again, f**king I don't want anybody going 'he knows' but I know nothing."

So maybe Luke isn't being resurrected and the title isn't talking about Rey or Kylo Ren. Perhaps it's referring to multiple people paying homage to Luke's legacy, and a new religion or order starts with them calling themselves "Skywalkers." That would be pretty cool.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker debuts Dec. 20, 2019.
