Though the film is just under five months away, anticipation is building rapidly for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, with fans enthusiastically grabbing every hint they can. Recently, another tease for the film emerged, this time from Kevin Smith, who claimed that the final shot of The Rise of Skywalker will “melt fans’ minds.”

Smith shared the detail with IGN (via NME) while at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, saying that he had not seen the part, but that it was teased for him and that he nearly saw it. “There was this scuttlebutt about a set there at Pinewood, a big set that [the crew] were like: ‘You have to see this. When you see it, it’ll melt your mind,’” he said.

Subsequently, Smith asked director J.J. Abrams about the shot, who deflected his request. “I asked J.J., ‘They keep telling me I should see the set,’ and he said, ‘Don’t…because it’s the last shot of the movie.’ Then I was like, ‘Well, now I really want to see it.’ He goes, ‘You don’t wanna spoil it: you wanna be in the movie theatre when you see [the final shot], trust me.'”

Previous hints have indicated that the film, which concludes both the sequel trilogy and the Skywalker Saga, will offer an action-packed and emotional ride for fans. Beyond the story, Abrams has also shared that the film will feature the final live appearance of Carrie Fisher alongside her daughter, Billie Lourd, in a moment that he has described as “spiritual” and “touching.”

While we’re beyond excited for The Rise of Skywalker, we think we’re in agreement with Abrams--we want to experience the film as it’s meant to be experienced, in the theater. It premieres on Dec. 20, 2019.
