Kevin Feige Admitted He Once Worried 'Iron Man' Wouldn't Even Make it to Theaters

Marvel Studios recently celebrated 10 years since it launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. In a Dec. 2018 interview, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed he once worried Iron Man, which was the studio’s first production, wouldn’t even make it into theaters.
“There were days when I wasn’t sure we would be able to get Iron Man in theaters,” Feige told Variety, as resurfaced by Comic Book. “There were days when I thought Avengers was a pipe dream. And there were days after Avengers where I thought, ‘Well, where do we go?’”
The studio, which is now owned by Disney, has created 20 consecutive box office hits. “It’s surreal. In one way it’s incredibly satisfying. In the other way it’s nearly unbelievable from where we started,” Feige said.

Back in 1996, Marvel actually filed for bankruptcy, which resulted in its selling off the screen rights to Spider-Man, the X-Men, and Blade. In 2005, Marvel secured financing from Merrill Lynch and teamed up with Paramount Pictures to create the first film in the MCU, which was of course the first Iron Man.
Iron Man was a surprise hit, grossing more than half a billion dollars worldwide. The movie also introduced the MCU to the world, when Nick Fury announced to Tony Stark that he belonged to a "bigger universe."
Marvel fans have an exciting few months to look forward to with Captain Marvel hitting theaters on March 8, Avengers: Endgame premiering on April 26, and Spider-Man: Far From Home debuting on July 5.
