Jon Favreau is credited with introducing the world to Iron Man way back in 2008, kicking off the 22 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But after three phases starring Iron Man, including Iron Man 1, 2, and 3, Favreau--who directed the first two--says there are no plans to continue with an Iron Man 4.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the most successful movie franchises of all time, and much of it is thanks to Iron Man paving the way. Tony Stark has been the father figure to many of the other characters, and proved to be an integral part of all the films. But sadly, superheroes in the MCU don't need Tony anymore.

Iron Man got the honorable MCU conclusion he deserved at the end of Avengers: Endgame, going out protecting the world and the rest of his team of superheroes. All of these factors played a part in the decision to lay the Tony Stark storyline to rest.

ScreenRant asked Favreau about a possible Iron Man 4 on the set of Spider-Man: Far From Home, where he will reprise his role as Happy Hogan.

"We haven't talked about 4. I've talked to [Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige] about it to see what they're up to, but we definitely love working together and we love these characters," Favreau shared. "So we talk about what it would be, and we always joke about the ‘Freak’ storyline, which is a Happy Hogan storyline when he turns into a Hulk-like character. We joke about that, though, no plans as of yet."

With how well the MCU is doing, it maybe is time to retire its oldest member now that the fates of the other superheroes are safe for now. But that doesn't mean we'll ever stop hoping for a fourth movie.
