It's official. Joker is now the highest-grossing rated-R film at the worldwide box office, raking in roughly $788 million, CNN reports. This means that the Joaquin Phoenix movie has surpassed Deadpool, which made $783 million globally in 2016, as well as the sequel, Deadpool 2.

With this, the Merc With a Mouth actor Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter to congratulate Joker in the most Ryan Reynolds way possible.

Many moons before its quick climb to the top, Joker was already one of the most talked about films of 2019. Some people were initially concerned with the level of violence, and everyone was curious as to how Phoenix's performance would compare to previous, and downright iconic, portrayals. But in the end, Joker has become an undeniable success. The 45-year-old star's performance has led to extensive critical acclaim and much-deserved Oscar buzz.

While the flick is still steadily climbing, it hasn't reached The Passion of the Christ status, as CNN points out, which is the highest-grossing R-rated film domestically. But it has hit $259 million in the U.S., shattering box office records earlier this month when it opened to $96 million. And those numbers are nothing to laugh at.
