In a shocking turn of events, Disney has rehired James Gunn to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

First reported by Deadline, the decision to rehire Gunn was actually made months ago following conversations with Disney Studios leadership and Marvel Studios.

The outlet reports that after the firing, Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn met with Gunn on multiple occasions to discuss the situation. Evidently, Horn was convinced that Gunn was worthy of a second chance.

The director has released a statement on Twitter, which is ironically the app that got him fired in the first place.

There are millions of questions and issues that comes with the rehiring. Will Disney face significant backlash? How much did Gunn's July firing change the approach for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?

Another thing fans wondered when they heard the news is what this means for DC's Suicide Squad sequel, which Gunn was slated to write and direct. Turns out, he still has intentions to do just that.

According to Deadline, things got pretty complicated when Gunn decided to write and direct the Suicide Squad sequel. But the outlet reports that Marvel Studios has agreed to hold off shooting anything for Guardians of the Galaxy until Gunn is finished filming the DCEU movie.

Plenty of fans are excited they'll get the director's vision for both films.

Others are sad that this means there will be a longer wait for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

There's plenty of issues when it comes to Gunn's rehiring and both sides of this debate have a right to be thrilled or upset about the news. But looking at things from a business perspective, this is great for both Disney and Warner Bros.
