How Did Nick Fury Lose His Eye? Marvel Fans Have Theory
By Jennifer Fabiano

The first ever Captain Marvel movie is just a few months away from hitting theaters, and fans can’t wait to witness the unique origin of the one and only Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, played by actress Brie Larson.
Fans are also excited because they believe the upcoming film will finally reveal how Nick Fury, played by 70-year-old Samuel L. Jackson, lost his eye. Marvel hasn’t offered up any explanation, but since Fury is shown without an eye patch in the Captain Marvel trailer, fans are expecting to hear the backstory at long last.
“We’re going back now, and I meet Captain Marvel in more of an origin story," Jackson revealed in an interview with A.V. Club. "You’ll see Nick Fury with another guy’s face, somebody that’s got two eyes, so that’s a whole big deal. You’ll see. It’s prior to the eye injury, no eye patch."
Of course, impatient fans have created theories of their own about how the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent came to lose one of his eyes.
In 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Fury told Steve Rogers the last time he trusted someone, he lost an eye. In the trailer, it appears Fury is beginning to trust Captain Marvel, so the most popular theory claims she's actually the one who destroyed his eye.
One fan on Reddit theorized a misunderstanding between Danvers and Fury lead to her destroying his eye. The user wrote that after realizing the terrible mistake she made, Danvers might've fled Earth due to “getting a taste of Fury's power as head of S.H.I.E.L.D.," and knowing she "wouldn't be safe as long as Fury was alive."
The theory goes on to state that this would explain Fury’s hesitation in using the pager at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. Though he knew Carol would come to Earth because she “owed” him, Fury was still ridiculously upset about the incident.
Fans will be able to find out how Fury truly lost his eye when Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8, 2019.
