How ‘Cleganebowl’ From 'Game of Thrones' Became a Thing

There are countless Game of Thrones fan theories out there, but only one predicts a showdown between two brothers, better known as Cleganebowl. It's one of those weird phenomenons that fans have become obsessed with during the show's seven seasons, and now with new teasers for Season 8, many think the battle will come to fruition. But as the theory is now circulating the internet once again, some are wondering what it even means, and where it came from.

Basically, the gist is that The Mountain and The Hound, real names Gregor and Sandor Clegane, will fight to the death in an epic battle, with one triumphing over the other.

Fans recently started to get hyped up for battle again once Entertainment Weekly released a cover of the brothers looking menacing and crossing their swords.

The theory has been around since roughly 2013, and was believed to have been given the name from a post on forum 4chan by an anonymous user. The post also featured a YouTube video that argued why Cleganebowl would have to happen, but has since been deleted.

The two brothers did reunite in Season 7 for a stare down, although nothing substantial happened. We're all expecting a full out fight between them when Game of Thrones returns on April 14.
