As fans of Game of Thrones know, author George RR Martin has been taking his sweet old time writing the sixth novel in his A Song of Ice and Fire series, The Winds of Winter. But he's apparently been up to other writing jobs, even having written four episodes of the TV series based on his books.

The episodes in question are “The Pointy End” in Season 1, “Blackwater” in Season 2, “The Bear and the Maiden Fair” in Season 3, and “The Lion and the Rose” in Season 4.

Writing these episodes proved to be too much for Martin, though, as the author found it too difficult and eventually decided not to continue. He took to his LiveJournal in 2015 to explain to fans why he made that decision.

“I’ve decided not to script an episode for season six of Game of Thrones," Martin wrote. "Writing a script takes me three weeks, minimum, and longer when it is not a straight adaptation from the novels. And really, it would cost me more time than that, since I have never been good at changing gears from one medium to another and back again.”

Martin concluded the post reminding fans that his time is mostly occupied by writing The Winds of Winter. “My energies are best devoted to Winds,” Martin claimed. Fast forward four years, and we still don't have a release date for the book in sight.
