George Clooney Defends Meghan Markle Against Paparazzi While Comparing Her to Princess Diana

It's no secret that ex-actress Meghan Markle has had a hard time coming into one of the oldest most prominent families in the world, the British royal family. The Duchess of Sussex has been criticized endlessly by the press and the public, who have started rumors that she's trying to start feuds with sister-in-law Kate Middleton, among other things like breaking traditions.

Recently, People reported that five of Markle's friends have anonymously come forward to help the Duchess and tell the public the truth about her. Now, another one of her friends has come forward to say that she is being mistreated, and that would be actor George Clooney.

In a recent interview, Clooney slammed Markle's unfair experience with paparazzi and the media since entering the royal family, even going as far as to compare her situation to Princess Diana's struggle with the press.

“They’re just chasing Meghan Markle everywhere, she’s been pursued and vilified,” Clooney said during an interview with Who. “She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was and it’s history repeating itself.”

“We’ve seen how that ends," Clooney concluded, in reference to Princess Diana's fatal car crash.

Clooney was also quick to refute claims that he might be the godfather to Markle's baby. “Oh yes, I’ll be godfather of the royals apparently,” Clooney joked, before stating, “No!”
