'Game of Thrones' Writer Explains Season 8's Slow Start
By Hannah Wigandt

If you're wondering why the first two episodes of Game of Thrones Season 8 were a tad slow (especially for the final season, which has a lot to live up to), one writer behind the series has an answer for you.
Expectations for this season are extremely high, but so far fans haven't been too thrilled with how it's panned out. But there is always a reason and a good one, according to writer Bryan Cogman. The longtime writer and executive producer says they decided on the long lead-up to show fans how each character would deal with the imminent battle of Winterfell.
"If somebody who's watching wants a bit more action early, then they're probably disappointed," Cogman told The Hollywood Reporter. "I think it's fair to say they'll get their wish pretty soon."
The slow beginning was apparently to allow all of our favorite characters to reunite, reflect on their lives, and prepare for possible death. Cogman also clarified that when writing the series, they're never thinking about what anyone else thinks, and their only concern is how the story naturally evolves.
"I have learned this from [series creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss]: we just have to tell the story we want to tell, and feel the rhythm of the story as we're laying it out," Cogman continued. "There aren't any conversations about what people are going to think. If it feels right? That's what we do. We determined pretty early on that we would explore this idea of, 'What would you do if you thought it was your last night on Earth?' It felt appropriate, and even necessary at this stage in the game."
We can all be rest assured, however, that next week's show will be the most action-packed Thrones episode in history.
