'Game of Thrones' Star Says They Were 'Pleased' With Their Death Scene [SPOILERS]
By Olivia Montine

This story includes spoilers for 'Game of Thrones' Season 8, Episode 3, "The Long Night."
While not as many as we expected, a few fan-favorite characters were killed at the Battle of Winterfell in the latest episode of Game of Thrones, such as Jorah and Lyanna Mormont. We also saw the death of the hundreds-year-old witch known as Melisandre--and the actress behind the Red Woman was pleasantly surprised with the way her character met her demise.
Somehow Melisandre's death left a huge impact on me. She knew her purpose and kept on living for that purpose alone. And when she succeeded, she greeted death like an old friend!#GameOfThrones #GoTS8

Melisandre didn't exactly have the best track record with fans after a few questionable actions, but her death was redeeming given the integral role she had in saving Winterfell from the Night King.
“I knew I had it coming, I just had no idea how it was going to happen,” Carice van Houten, the actress who plays the Red Woman, told BuzzFeed. “I always thought she would probably be killed in some violent death or something really terrible, which would’ve made sense for the show, but when I read that, it was a really poetic, elegant, bittersweet ending.” Van Houten apparently did not know how her character met her end until she read the scripts for Season 8.
We know that there will be many deaths beyond Melisandre, but we doubt any of them will be as peaceful.
