'Game of Thrones' Showrunners Reveal Ser Pounce is Dead

Out of all the things the creators of Game of Thrones could have told us about the new season, they’ve chosen to tell us that King Tommen’s cat Ser Pounce is dead. This basically has nothing to do with the crucial parts of the season, but just a tidbit of information related to someone most of us probably forgot about.

But if you’re interested, the fate of Tommen’s beloved cat has been confirmed by Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and fans finally know what happened to him.

The royal cat was introduced on the show in Season 4, during Margaery Tyrell’s flirtations with Tommen. After one scene, the cat leapt into many fans’ hearts and became a online sensation for a time. Then, after Tommen’s suicide, the cat seemed to disappear.

“Cersei hated the name ‘Ser Pounce’ so much she could not allow him to survive,” Benioff informed Entertainment Weekly. “So she came up with her most diabolical [execution]. Ser Pounce’s death was so horrible we couldn’t even put it on the air.”

This probably wouldn't be far from the truth, given Cersei’s track record, but it’s still kind of heartbreaking.

“If you buy the super-extended, super-charged Game of Thrones box set that comes out, the death of Ser Pounce will be in there,” Weiss joked. “Just one whole episode devoted to the death of Ser Pounce.”
