'Game of Thrones' Fans Start Theorizing Missandei is Actually a Faceless Man

An essential part of Arya Stark’s journey in Game of Thrones comes from Jaqen H’ghar and the Faceless Men, a cult of assassins who worship the Many-Faced God. After Arya saves Jaqen all the way back in Season 1, he grants her three deaths, a move which ultimately leads to her being trained by him in Braavos by the fifth season, along with becoming the skilled assassin we know and love today. We know a bit about the Faceless Men, whose catchphrase “valar morghulis,” a.k.a. “all men must die” in High Valyrian, has become a staple to the series, but what if there are more of them lurking around in plain sight? Fans are beginning to speculate one of the seemingly most loyal characters in the show might actually be one of them.

Glamour reports that many on Twitter are suggesting Missandei, Daenerys Targaryen’s trusted advisor, is really a Faceless Man. This idea comes mainly from her ability to speak multiple languages, and suspicions regarding her past. “Missandei told Davos where she was from when they met & Davos told her his travels took him there all the time and she didn't have an accent like someone from there,” one pointed out on social, adding that her love story with Grey Worm is “blinding” us.

The scene referred to here is from Season 7, when Jon Snow and Davos Seaworth arrive at Dragonstone. Davos approaches Missandei rather quickly, asking her where she’s from. “I can’t place the accent,” he tells her. Was he just being nosey, or was he actually onto something?

People have also pointed out how popular this theory is from the book series, as Missandei is depicted as way too wise for her age. She has an extensive knowledge of the Seven Kingdoms, and also speaks strangely, often referring to herself as “the one.”

Yet regardless of how intriguing this idea is, the fact that we only have four episodes left of Game of Thrones has us pretty convinced a twist this big couldn’t be pulled off in such a short amount of time. Plus, we’d like to think Missandei is truly as angelic as she seems. But we’re also still hoping the Faceless Men are incorporated in one way or another in what’s to come.
