'Game of Thrones' and Bud Light Team Up for Super Bowl Commercial
By Jennifer Fabiano

While HBO really doesn’t have to promote the upcoming season of Game of Thrones at all for fans to be aware that it premieres on April 14, the hit series did show up among the many iconic Feb. 3, 2019 Super Bowl commercials.
But interestingly enough, none of the main characters from Thrones made the cut for the advertisement. Instead, HBO teamed up with Bud Light to promote both the beer and the final season.
The commercial started out as most recent Bud Light commercials do: with lots of medieval-dressed people saying "Dilly Dilly" while raising the blue adorned bottles. Dedicated Thrones fans may have recognized the beginning of the commercial as a recreation of the jousting scene from season one. Before long, the “Bud Knight” was knocked off his horse by Gregor Clegane (a.k.a. The Mountain).
In case viewers weren’t yet sure that this was a Bud Light and Thrones collab, the iconic theme music was sure to let them know. The music set in as the mood changed and sky darkened. All of a sudden, we saw one of Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons swoop in and light the event ablaze.
While most got a laugh out of the commercial, many Thrones fans were disappointed that they didn’t get a more in-depth look at season eight footage.
It turns out that fans might be lucky to just be getting a peek at any new footage, as the showrunners admitted they considered not putting out any season eight trailers whatsoever. But fans have nothing to fear, as Daniel Weiss and David Benioff confirmed a complete trailer is, in fact, on its way.
