While A-list stars posed for paparazzi this past weekend at the 2020 SAG Awards, the folks behind the camera also stepped out for the 2020 Producers Guild Awards, including Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman. While strutting her stuff down the red carpet, reporters couldn’t help but ask about the discussed reunion rumored to be underway at HBO Max for the iconic series.

HollywoodLife reports that Kauffman simply replied to the inquiries at first, “Honestly, I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. At this point, there’s talk. Who knows?” She later elaborated, saying that if it does happen, it definitely won’t be a reboot.

She explained that she and co-creator David Crane would be behind it “if it were the right thing,” which (in her mind) would look like, “the six of them together reflecting, talking about their experiences, and the episodes … I’m totally behind it. Nothing scripted. We will not do anything scripted.”

Kauffman detailed that getting a reunion special like this off the ground is a lot more complex than Joey, Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, and Ross, getting together for coffee. She continued, “It’s complicated. It’s very complicated. It’s everything. It’s a very complicated thing to do.”

I might be a tad biased, but with the cast down to do it, and the show remaining one of the most-streamed series to this day, it doesn’t seem all that difficult.
