Elizabeth Olsen, known for her role as Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, once auditioned for the part of none other than Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO series Game of Thrones. The American actress told Vulture that she interviewed for the part of Khaleesi in two different accents, because they didn't know yet if they wanted a British accent or not.

Olsen said that she delivered the monologue from the end of the first season, before the character becomes the Mother of Dragons. “[From] after she just burned," Olsen recalled. "And she’s making this speech to thousands of people about how she’s their queen. They didn’t know if they wanted a British accent or not. So, you did it in both. It was terrible. Anytime someone says, ‘Bad audition story.’ That’s one I remember.”

The role ultimately went to Emilia Clarke, who helped create the iconic figure of Daenerys Targaryen, a long way from the young Khaleesi back in Season 1. It's tough imagining anyone else playing her part, but Olsen was apparently auditioning for several different roles at this time in her acting career.

“When I first started working, I just auditioned for everything, because I like auditioning," Olsen told Vulture. "And I auditioned for Khaleesi. I forgot that. It was the most awkward audition I’d ever had.”

It wasn't all fun and games for Clarke, though, when she scored the role. She suffered two brain aneurysms during the time on the show, and kept it secret in the beginning so that she could keep her role as Daenerys.
