By now there's no doubt, you would have heard, or seen, the dramatic ordeal between Will Smith and comedian Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars. The former Fresh Prince of Belair actor took to the stage and assaulted the Grown-Ups actor, on Sunday, by slapping him across the face for, disrespecting his wife.

The comedian, who has been a long-time pal of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, made a joke about the actress -- who's married to the Men In Black actor -- which didn't sit well with Will, resulting in him having a violent outburst at the 94th Academy Awards which totally overshadowed his career-changing Oscar win. With many debating who was in the right or wrong on Sunday, many are curious to find out whether Will Smith will get to keep his Oscar for his portrayal of Serena and Venus Williams' father in King Richard?

What will happen to Will Smith and his Oscar award?

At the moment an official decision hasn't been made by the Academy. However, they condemned the actor's behavior and actions by announcing that they will be launching a full investigation into the incident. The committee is set to meet on Wednesday to discuss the situation and how to reprimand Will Smith accordingly.

However, Whoopi Goldberg, actor and member of the Academy’s board of governors, said during US talkshow The View on Monday: “We’re not going to take that Oscar from him. There will be consequences I’m sure, but I don’t think that’s what they’ll do.”
