Todd Phillip's Joker is due to hit theaters on Oct. 4. The film, which will be rated R, has been making fans curious after the director confirmed that the script won't follow anything from the DC Comics. Instead, the film will depict the life of Arthur Fleck, played by Joaquin Phoenix, as he descends into madness and becomes the infamous villain.

In Phillips' film, Arthur Fleck is an aspiring stand-up comedian who also cares for his elderly mother, played by Frances Conroy. Robert De Niro also plays a role as a late-night television host.

The film's runtime has just been revealed to be 122 minutes. Joker is expected to appear in the 2019 film festivals, debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The fact that the film is opening at a festival has many fans speculating it will be much more than just a comic book movie and shows that Phillips may be hoping to win some awards for it.

Joker is a departure for Phillips in terms of style and content. The director launched his career with the Will Ferrell comedy Old School and later did the Hangover series. The darker themes of Joker may be Phillips' jump into high-brow cinema. We'll be waiting for October to find out.
