With the final season of Game of Thrones finally just about a month away, fans of the acclaimed HBO series have been going crazy over the anticipation. Between countless fan theories and finally the first full-length trailer for Season 8, the hype is real to say the very least. But while we count down the days until we can see the likes of Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow again, it appears the showrunners are getting more and more nervous.

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss highlighted the pressure they face with the ending of such a huge show. “We want people to love it. It matters a lot to us. We’ve spent 11 years doing this,” Weiss declared, while Benioff added, “From the beginning we’ve talked about how the show would end. A good story isn’t a good story if you have a bad ending. Of course we worry.”

And when asked what the pair would be doing when the finale airs on Sunday, May 19, Benioff stated bluntly, “I plan to be very drunk, and very far from the internet.”

It’s probably a smart move, but fans have of course taken this as a warning that perhaps they shouldn’t get their hopes up too much with the final season, even taking to Reddit to discuss this one quote. We’ve been told by many of the show’s stars that not everyone will be pleased with the ending, but how could we not have high expectations?

The final season of Game of Thrones debuts on April 14. Be ready for anything.
