Darth Vader Actor David Prowse Spoiled Luke's Parentage Years Before 'Empire Strikes Back' Debuted

There have been many things revealed about what went on during the original Star Wars series in the 1970s and 1980s (one of the biggest came from Carrie Fisher's memoir The Princess Diarist where she confessed she had an affair with Harrison Ford), and fans have come to love when the legacy players open up about the past.

One funny detail that has been discovered is that David Prowse, who played Darth Vader in A New Hope (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi (1983), actually spoiled one of the most pivotal scenes in Star Wars history. You know the one, when Darth Vader tells Luke Skywalker, "No, I am your father"?

The scene forever changed cinema forever, as fans were faced with the reality that their hero was directly related to the enemy.

The actor behind the iconic mask spoiled the scene as early as years before both The Empire Strikes Back debuted in '80, and before The Empire's novelization was released in '78.

According to a 1978 newspaper clipping posted on Retroist.com in 2010, a crowd of 1,000 Star Wars fans congregated in Berkeley, California to meet Prowse. And what did he do to reward his fans? He spoiled the upcoming film, announcing, “Father can’t kill son, son can’t kill father.”

Today, Prowse probably would've been canned for spoiling the most important moment of the original series. Now fans are lucky if they even get a movie title ahead of its release.
