Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg knows a thing or two about X-Men storylines. After writing the script for X-Men: The Last Stand, which touched on Jean Grey's story, Kinberg has finally gotten the chance to direct and redo the subplot he wrote with Dark Phoenix. But there is another story Kinberg would like to see done again.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Kinberg explained that while he thinks all the X-Men movies are great, he still would've liked to explore more of the Weapon X plot that was featured in 2017's Logan.

"I think the other storylines in the mainline X-Men movies were told well," Kinberg said. "I think, in terms of other X-Men films or the spin-offs, maybe the Weapon X story could be told again. Jim Mangold did such an extraordinary job with Logan and I loved it. I don't know how you would do it to like go backward, I don't think you could do it with Hugh, but I do think that there's something in the Weapon X story that would be cool to see."

The Weapon X storyline follows the origins of Wolverine, and how he was kidnapped and tested on by a top secret government agency that gave him his Adamantium claws.

Now with Disney bringing the X-Men back to Marvel after buying 21st Century Fox, it's difficult to know what the future holds for the mutants. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has said that it might be years before they can incorporate the characters into the ever-growing MCU.
