Dark Phoenix's second trailer has finally arrived, and fans are having mixed emotions about it, considering it spoils a major death. We finally know whose grave is in the trailer, and it's not what we expected. Spoilers ahead if you haven't seen it.
We now have confirmation that Jennifer Lawrence's character Mystique will die in Dark Phoenix. But fans are all asking why spoil something so major in the trailer? It wasn't leaked; it was purposely shown.
The trailer specifically shows what happens to Mystique when she goes up to Jean to try to calm her down. Her body goes flying and the next thing we see if everyone standing around her grave.
Director Simon Kinberg talked to Entertainment Weekly about the unexpected spoiler and why they did it.
"Well, the thought process behind that was to primarily show that this is a movie that is unlike other X-Men movies," he said. "It’s a movie where shocking things happen, where intense, dramatic things happen. People don’t just fall off buildings and dust themselves off and walk away. There’s a reality to this movie and a consequence to this movie. Even more than that, it was to show that Jean/Dark Phoenix is genuinely a threat to everyone, including the X-Men."
Kinberg called Mystique's death the most dramatic thing that happens in the movie, but certainly not the only aspect. He also revealed there will be other deaths in the movie as well, and with Jessica Chastain hinting her character might even kill off some X-Men, we're ready for a very eventful film.
Dark Phoenix premieres June 7.
