'Dark Phoenix' Actress Alexandra Shipp Doesn't Want Romance for Storm and Black Panther

The end of an era is near, as Dark Phoenix will likely be the final X-Men film before the franchise is rebooted by the Marvel Cinematic Universe due to Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Marvel Studios directors' control of the mutants makes way for plenty of possible battles and alliances.

One relationship fans would like to see in the MCU is Storm and Black Panther, who got married in Marvel Comics. But, not everyone is on board with that idea.

Storm actress Alexandra Shipp doesn't believe Ororo needs to have a relationship with the King of Wakanda. "No, I don’t think Storm needs T’Challa, and I think she needs her own movie! It doesn’t have to be me, it just needs to be made," Shipp told LRM Online during her appearance at WonderCon. "A woman does not need a man in order to give her validity and she has also been around longer than him."

In regards to reprising her role in the MCU, Shipp expressed some serious qualms.

"I would and I wouldn’t (like it), because Storm barely has anything to say as it is," she said. "I don’t know about you all (other actors) but like we never talk. So it would be really nice if we weren’t piled into yet another jam packed cast, in which you only see me in the back of the shot like f***ing sasquatch."

But fans don't mind if Shipp has to drop the role, as long as they can have an on-screen T'Challa-Storm romance.

With the Infinity Saga coming to a close when Avengers: Endgame is released on April 26, there is a need for new stories and characters in the MCU. But with some X-Men stars not all-in on the idea, maybe the reboot will include a totally different cast.
