Chris Hemsworth’s Thor has been one of the most enduringly popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and, thankfully for fans, he wants to continue to appear in films in Phase 4, even following the departure of characters such as Iron Man and likely Captain America. Before Hemsworth straps up for those films however, he’s set his eye on a much greater, even seemingly impossible prize: a showdown between Thor and Superman.

On an Instagram Story this week, according to We Got This Covered, Hemsworth shared fan art of Thor, wielding massive bolts of lightning, facing off with Superman. Attached to the photo was the caption “#Sendmelocation” and a humorous emoji. The positioning of Superman did not give indication as to which Man of Steel was participating in the fight--which is fortunate, considering that Henry Cavill’s place as Superman is in limbo--but the pose was reminiscent of the Superman who appears in Justice League and Man of Steel.

There are currently no plans of such a crossover between the Marvel and DC Cinematic Universes, though the image echoes the JLA/Avengers series co-published by the companies in 2003-2004. In the series, the DC villain Krona and the Marvel villain Grandmaster (who, coincidentally, appears in Thor: Ragnarok, played by Jeff Goldblum) conspire to create a conflict between the Justice League and Avengers for the fate of their respective universes.

In the meantime, Hemsworth is slated to appear alongside Ragnarok co-star Tessa Thompson in Men in Black: International this June, and, considering the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, might appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

As for us, we love to see this kind of fan art, and we love it even more when actors and creators engage with it--it’s nice to know that they love the material as much as we do.
