Chadwick Boseman Was Once Replaced by Michael B. Jordan on a TV Show After He Was Fired

If you're a Marvel fan, then you know Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa and Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger from 2018's Black Panther. The actors have both scored notable roles before the superhero movie, such as Boseman in 42 and Jordan in Fruitvale Station, but now we all recognize them best for their parts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But the funny part is, way before the actors entered the world of Wakanda, the pair actually played the same character on a TV show. And here's where it gets awkward. Boseman, 41, was actually fired, then replaced by Jordan, 31.

Boseman played the role of Reggie Porter Montgomery in soap All My Children in 2003 for just a week, only to be replaced by Jordan from 2003 to 2006. Although it's probably very strange for the actors, they recently opened up on the situation for the first time to The Wrap.

"It’s one of those things where you get a role, and you don’t really know," Boseman began. "When I got it, I was like, 'This is not part of my manifesto. This is not part of what I want to do. How can I make it work?' Because with a soap opera, you don’t know the full scope of what’s gonna happen — you don’t know where they’re gonna take the character, because they don’t always know where the character is going." The actor was ultimately fired for complaining about the role.

While it seems Boseman was ready to leave the role, Jordan explained how excited and open he was to it. He also added that the T'Challa actor made things a bit easier for him by voicing his opinion on the character.

"I’m younger than Chad, and I was coming into All My Children fresh off The Wire — wide open, still learning," Jordan shared. "I was playing this role not knowing that a lot of the things I was going through were because of what he’d already done for me."

Things obviously worked out in the end, with both stars going on to appear in critically acclaimed films, including Black Panther, which has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Picture - Drama, along with some Academy Award predictions.

Thankfully Boseman and Jordan get along better than their Black Panther characters do, or else they would've had a much more awkward story to share.
