Carter Mullally Jr.: SAG Awards Host Megan Mullally Discusses Late Father's Acting Career

The 25th annual SAG Awards took place on Sunday night, and besides seeing amazing wins for actors such as Green Book's Mahershala Ali and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's Rachel Brosnahan, Megan Mullally took the stage the host the event. The Will & Grace star had some funny one-liners, but she really got the audience's attention when she sweetly brought up her late father, Carter Mullally Jr.

While speaking on the significance of the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), Mullally shared that her father, who died in 1992, was still getting checks for his early works. Most specifically, the actress showed off a residual check her father recently received for the pilot episode of The Twilight Zone.

Though Mullally Jr. only has six acting credits on his IMDb page, his daughter highlighted how thankful she was for the SAG-AFTRA, which truly helps actors.

Apart from playing an Air Force Captain in the first ever—and arguably the most famous—episode of The Twilight Zone in 1959, titled "Where Is Everybody?," Mullally Jr. had brief roles shows such as How to Marry a Millionaire (1958) and Dallas (1978-1982).

Mullally Jr. had one child with wife Martha Palmer, Megan Mullally, and after failing to become a more successful actor, moved his family back from Hollywood to Oklahoma City, where he was born and raised. Although he passed before seeing his daughter land her most famous role as Karen Walker on Will & Grace in 1997, he did get to see her start her acting career. We're sure he would've been extremely proud of how much she's accomplished today.
