The mysterious case of Jude Law's role in Captain Marvel has been going on since he was cast in the film as the Starforce's commander and Carol Danvers' mentor. The two characters fans zeroed in on were Mar-Vell and Yon-Rogg.

Plenty of fans believed Law would play Mar-Vell and for good reason. In December, Disney updated the official Captain Marvel website with a previously released image of Law and Brie Larson with the caption, "Jude Law as Mar-Vell, the leader of the Starforce."

Not only that, but IMDb's casting also had the Sherlock Holmes actor slated to play Mar-Vell. So it appeared Law's role in the film was totally confirmed, but more recent events led fans to believe he'll play Yon-Rogg.

The new novel, Captain Marvel: Starforce on the Rise, confirmed that the Starforce's commander is Yon-Rogg. Moreover, toys and merchandise for the film implied the same thing.

But now, we finally have an official answer from Marvel themselves regarding who Law will play. A new behind-the-scenes featurette released today confirms that the 46-year-old actor is Yon-Rogg.

The video shows the cast and crew of the film discussing the war between the Kree and the Skrulls. When Law appears on the screen in the clip, the lower third below him reads his character's name, Yon-Rogg.

Fans are happy that the lengthy mystery, which has become a running joke on social media, has finally been solved.

Now, the only question we need answered is what exactly are Yon-Rogg's plans in the film? But we'll find that out on March 8 when Captain Marvel is released.
