Brie Larson's Impressive Paycheck for 'Captain Marvel' Revealed

Being cast in the first ever female-led Marvel film series, Captain Marvel, would seemingly mean a lot to someone like actress Brie Larson, who plays the leading role. But in reality, she's isn't too surprised. Larson is a huge supporter of the Time's Up movement and the fight for women's equality, so while the film is extremely important to her, she also points out that women have been leading Hollywood forever, asking why this movie should be any different.

"There's this sense of setting this thing up," Larson told The Hollywood Reporter. "I know it's exciting and fun to be like, 'Will it sink or will it float?' 'What's going to happen?' 'Can women exist in the world?' 'We're not sure yet!' But women have been opening movies since the silent era. We have been part of every major art movement. People just push us away once the movement gains momentum and act like we were never really there."

To us, this film is different because not only is Larson paving the way for more female leads in blockbuster films, but she is changing the way we typically view superheroes, who are mostly male.

THR says Larson's paycheck is a large sum of $5 million to play Captain Marvel. In comparison, this is way more than her Marvel co-stars, such as Robert Downey Jr., who earned $500,000 to play the titular character in the first Iron Man movie in 2008. Chadwick Boseman, who played T'Challa/Black Panther in 2018's Black Panther, reportedly received $2 million for his first outing.

"We feel like it'll be the first of many," says Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige on the female-led film. "There were a lot of men in that initial run of Avengers."

Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8.
