Armie Hammer Might Not Actually Be Playing Next Batman Despite Reports [UPDATE]

UPDATE: Armie Hammer has since weighed in on the conflicting reports, explaining he has not been approached about the Batman role.

"No one who can actually give me the job has asked me if I’m interested, Hammer told Yahoo! UK. "I don’t even know if they’re done – I think they’re still working on a script. I don’t think that they’re close to production but I can conclusively tell you that no one has checked my availability, which is a bummer.”

Ever since the announcement Ben Affleck would be stepping down from playing Batman in the DC Extended Universe, fans have been scrambling to share who they think would be a perfect replacement for the Caped Crusader. Number one on nearly everyone's list: Armie Hammer.

But now there are conflicting reports and rumors both saying that Hammer will be cast, and will not.

Revenge of the Fans has reported that Warner Bros and DC are currently in discussions with Hammer about being cast as Batman, and are "ironing out the details" about a possible agreement. Since then, there have been other reports that beg to differ.

According to Borys Kit, a reporter for The Hollywood Reporter, the claim Hammer has been cast is false, and no one has met with executives about the role.

Whoever does get cast as Batman in Matt Reeves' film, The Batman, can expect some really cool things.

"It's very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale," Reeves told THR. "It's told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it's going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He's supposed to be the world's greatest detective, and that's not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I'd love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it's going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation."

Could we see Hammer in the upcoming The Batman? We'll have to wait and see.
